Job Description

The charge nurse will assume responsibility of the entire unit. They are responsible for overseeing the care provided to each patient, including the waiting room patients. To do so they will provide leadership and management thru consistent support, decision making and example.
The unit flow will be managed by assignment of rooms based on acuity taking into consideration all aspects of patient safety, comfort and privacy. Each decision impacts each patient and each staff member and will be made with caution.
Upon arrival on the unit, the on-coming charge nurse will review the unit huddle book to familiarize themselves and staff with changes as well as review the tracking board for appropriate assignments.
Prior to leaving shift, all EKGGÇÖs will be assigned to patient properly and all chart for the designated shift will be checked for charges and disposition in addition.
The Charge Nurse is also responsible for being a conduit for the physician and providers to facilitate flow and patient care. Additional duties will include decisions for productivity and staffing challenges. As an example to the staff the charge nurse must be able to provide copies of all up to date required competencies and will jeopardize their position with any lapse in certification.
Regulatory Requirements:
GÇó BSN from an accredited nursing program preferred.
GÇó 18 months acute/critical care experience preferred
GÇó Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.
GÇó Current BLS Certification.
GÇó ACLS certified within six (6) months of hire.
GÇó PALS within one (1) year of hire.
GÇó TNCC within one (1) year of hire.
GÇó ENPC preferred.
GÇó CEN preferred.
Language Skills:
GÇó Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
GÇó Additional languages preferred.
GÇó Basic computer knowledge.
GÇó Able to interpret basic ECG tracings.
