About the position:

Responsible for direction, coordination, and flow of patient care in the Perioperative Services Department which includes all services offered in pre-admission testing, ambulatory surgery, operating room, post-anesthetic care, endoscopy lab, and central sterile processing. Consults with staff, physicians, and the Perioperative Services Director on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure that the patients’ safety and care needs are met. Assists Director in meeting all regulatory requirements. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department. Provides direct patient care to neonate through geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the perioperative environment. Communicates with the surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously and as needed about patient condition. Coordinates the activities related to the maintenance of equipment, supply inventory and related processes. Assesses perioperative unit for equipment functioning and readiness. Ensures all appropriate needs of perioperative team are met. Participates and leads activities to ensure patient satisfaction and safety goals are met. Other duties as assigned.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Medical Secretary or previous related job experience.
  • Certifications as indicated by the Steward Certification document.

Language Skills:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages desirable.

Skills:

  • Basic computer knowledge.
