About ORMC:

Odessa Regional Medical Center was founded in 1975 by 14 obstetricians, pediatricians, and family practitioners as Odessa Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Through the years, the hospital grew and evolved into a full-service healthcare facility and the name was changed to Odessa Regional Hospital in 1995.

In June 2007, Odessa Regional Hospital purchased Alliance Hospital and changed its name to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. In 2015, ORMC acquired Basin Healthcare Center. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.

Today, ORMC offers a wide spectrum of healthcare services, including advanced diagnostic imaging technology, emergency care, innovative surgical procedures, maternity care, comprehensive cardiac services and general medical care.

About the Position:

Provides indirect patient care in the maternity setting, consistent with the unit's standards of care. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge. Prepares and compiles records in the Maternity Department. Initiates directions from physician and nursing staff. Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits; and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Provides service to age range from neonate to geriatricRegulatory Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent.Language Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.Skills: Basic computer knowledge. Knowledgeable of medical terminology. Provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.

Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice.

Meets communication needs of patients.

Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a Nursing Assistant.

Performs other duties as assigned, within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice.

Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patient.

Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.

Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.

Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the adolescent, geriatric and general patient population.

Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition.

Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions within scope of practice.

Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.

Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.

Prepares medical records for new admissions and discharged patients.

Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist patients/physicians in the care of a patient.

Transcribes physician orders within one hour after being written.

Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.

Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.

Orders supplies and printing weekly, obtains orders as required.

Answers telephone / intercom in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel / family.

Performs all aspects of indirect and/or direct patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.

Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

Responds to patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.

Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.

Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

Coordinates and supervises patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.

Demonstrates knowledge of disease entities.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including adolescent, geriatric and general population. (See Performance Evaluation Age-Related Competency)

Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
